Roads in North Stonehouse could be spruced up and made safer if residents are in favour of creating a new Home Zone.

Plymouth City Council is talking to residents living in and around Cecil Street, Neswick Street and Frederick Street West to see how much support there is for a Home Zone, which would create more open space and slow down traffic.

The project would be similar to the award-winning Adelaide Park Home Zone which transformed the streets around Adelaide Street and Clarence Place.

The Council worked with residents to find out how they wanted to improve their neighbourhood and the area around Adelaide Park now has a new feel, thanks to new granite road surfaces, street lights, planters and easier access for pedestrians and walkers as well as a new play park.

Councillor Michael Leaves, Cabinet Member for Street Scene, Waste and Sustainability, said: "This is very early days, but we want to see how much support there would be and how much people would like to be involved in shaping and improving the area they live in.”

The boundaries for the new zone could stretch as far as Flora Court, King Street and Cecil Street flats, Frederick Street and Neswick Street.

The Council has teamed up with the Stonehouse Action Group and Plymouth Community Homes to hold an initial public consultation will take place on Monday 30 November at the Frederick Street Centre between 2.30pm and 6.30pm.

People will be able to view plans which set out some of the preliminary ideas for the North Stonehouse Home Zone.
